PSP Spiritual Principles

Principles can be broken up into several different categories. For instance, combative principles, physical principles, spiritual and philosophical principles, and training principles. All principles of a given system must be unified and wholistically work together. That is what makes it a system versus random material.

Spiritual Principles

Spiritual Principles are those principles which are concerned mostly with learning to live with your fellow man harmoniously. Though they are based on Christianity, they are meant to be broader reaching.

Silat Brotherhood - Unity

It is our duty as pesilat or practitioners of pencak silat to extend the hand of brotherhood to everyone who pursues this path of learning. This also involves (maybe especially) those outside of our Aliran and perguruan. Pencak Silat is a warring martial art that is potentially deadly effective when put to use but it's goal is to preserve life whenever and wherever possible. Sometimes your own, and sometimes a friends. Extend the hand of friendship. Who knows when you will need a friend! Silaturahim!

Live Right

You don't know when you will die. It is better to live, doing what is right as though death is only a moment away.

Everyday is an opportunity or a struggle

In the morning when you wake, you will have opportunity to learn or be frustrated. Choose to learn since there are many aspects to life which we will not understand or be able to control and because they occur outside of our realm of understanding. We can't always see the end of a thing even once we have gone through it.
"For we[c] are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places." (Ephesians 6:12, NLT)

Act Right

Sometimes we must do the right thing even when we don't want to or it doesn't feel good. This is an act of self-discipline and self-control. In this way, we keep moving toward what is right, good, and just. It will also encourage others to move this way. Just because you are poor is no excuse for becoming a robber.
"There is joy for those who deal justly with others and always do what is right." (Psalm 106, NLT)

Be Prepared

The art of being a warrior is being prepared. It doesn't always mean concerning combat. You must learn to be prepared all through life. One way to prepare is to train regularly and build the necessary tools into your life.
"People can never predict when hard times might come. Like fish in a net or birds in a trap, people are caught by sudden tragedy." (Ecclesiastes 9:12, NLT)
